Sunday Times article exposes UK government’s dither and delay in tackling coronavirus

The Sunday Times released their damning report into the timeline of events that took place during the UK government’s preparation for coronavirus from the point China contacted the World Health Organisation, right up to yesterday’s figures of cases and deaths since covid-19 hit our shores.

The report shows:

  • Impact assessments on the coronavirus were made in the middle of January.
  • During a meeting described as a “game changer” held by officials of the Department of Health and the NHS Johnson was at Chequers announcing his engagement to Carrie Symonds.
  • Johnson went on a ‘working holiday’ to Kent for 12 days in the run up to the lockdown.
  • Johnson did not attend a Cobra meeting about the coronavirus until the beginning of March.
